Reports indicate that Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport (SIG) in Isla Grande may receive a $25.6 million federally funded runway overhaul to accommodate larger aircraft as part of broader plans to expand private aviation infrastructure.

The project, part of the Puerto Rico Ports Authority's capital investment plan for the century-old airport, would upgrade the runway's classification from B2 to C3 and increase its capacity to handle larger aircraft. The plan is paired with broader investments intended to transform Isla Grande into a modern FBO hub for business aviation in San Juan.

Why it matters

This significant infrastructure investment directly impacts business aviation capacity and operational capabilities at a key San Juan general aviation hub. Larger aircraft capacity at Isla Grande would expand options for corporate and charter operators serving the metro area, and signal long-term federal commitment to the island's general aviation infrastructure.
