Casualties

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Sunday afternoon that all nine people aboard the jet died. He called the crash "a horrific tragedy."

Authorities have not released the names of those on board, and they have not reported any injuries on the ground.

On the scene

Witness video showed the jet in a steep, nose-down descent before it struck near the roadway and exploded, tearing a crater into the pavement. Flames and heavy black smoke were visible from passing cars, and the wreckage came down feet from nearby homes. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office closed roads in both directions and urged motorists to avoid the area while firefighters and emergency crews worked the scene.

Duffy said the FAA is sending a team to support the NTSB investigation into the cause of the crash. The circumstances remain under investigation, and no probable cause has been identified.

Flight-tracking data showed the aircraft's last reported position at roughly 8,750 feet as it descended at high speed.
